The Homecoming - Chapter 3

                                                                 Excerpt
It was three months later.  On a hot and still Sunday afternoon, Sudha had a sudden urge to paint.  She was alone in the house.  Her parents had gone to a friend’s place for lunch.  Sanju having gone to Bombay to spend the week-end at his sister’s place, Sudha was bereft of his company too.
Thus she put up her easel, fixed the canvas on it, got her paints and brushes, a mug of water and a palette.  She knew what she was about to paint – the portrait of a mother and her child.

The Homecoming - Chapter 2

                                                             Excerpt
Her parents looked at each other, surprised.  That something must be really important, both of them thought silently, for her to be sitting with them after dinner.
On other days, their darling daughter always rushed off to catch up with some work, after dinner.  She would be either preparing for a speech, rehearsing her lines for the play or; off for a walk with her friends.
Her father’s lips curved into a smile as he thought about her busy schedule.  In spite of that, she always found time to be with her parents.  She kept them up to date with all her activities, invited their opinions and never talked about the so-called ‘generation gap’ about which, youngsters of her age, always complained.
She really was a gem.  He was very proud of her.  At this thought, his smile broadened even more.

The Homecoming - Chapter 1

                                                                               Excerpt
Apart from being clever and talented, she was also attractive.  Long, dark and thick tresses, luminous gazelle-like eyes, a well-chiselled nose and perfectly shaped lips attracted many an appreciative eye.  She was well-groomed to boot.
What was the icing on the cake was her extremely pleasant disposition, her impeccable manners and helpful nature.
There was no dearth of friends either.  Each one of them vied with the others for her company.  Sudha was considered to be a friend, philosopher and guide.  On her part, she would lend a patient ear to each one of them and often give them sensible advice.  For all her youthfulness, Sudha was very mature.  No wonder, she was able to be a true friend and confidante to many.

Better Late Than Never! - Chapter 4

                                                             EXCERPT

With a toss of her hair, she made herself a strong cup of tea, cleared the kitchen and settled on the sofa.  Just where Pramod had sat so many years ago!
“Please could you tell me whether that lady in the yellow dress, who was shopping here at 5.30 p.m. today, is Vasudha Mathur?  The one with short hair and …”
The counter-clerk interrupted Pramod’s sentence saying, “Oh, you mean Mrs. Mathur!  She’s our regular customer.”
“Could you tell me where she stays?  I want to give her an urgent message.  We were earlier working together, you see.”
Pramod had made a lame excuse of having a severe headache and walked out of the theater after a few reels of the movie were over.
