Shalini still couldn’t forget the
horrific scene of the crash. It was the
Mumbai-Pune Expressway, where vehicles were zooming on each side of the
divider. Suddenly, a Toyota had been rammed
into, by a small Maruti 800. The driver
of the Maruti had been driving at break-neck speed and had totally lost control
over his vehicle which had then rammed into the Toyota which had been
travelling at a more sedate pace. The Toyota had crashed into the stone wall on
the side of the expressway.
The Maruti driver had callously not bothered to even find out the fate of the occupants of the Toyota, though he heard terrible screams emanating from its gloomy interiors. Through that flash in which the Maruti sped past the battered Toyota, Shalini had vaguely made out the forms of a seriously bleeding lady, a distraught and injured man who was in the driver’s seat and a bawling child in the back-seat.
